DEFINE GRATITUDE

Gratitude helps you to grow and expand; gratitude brings joy and laughter into your life and into the lives all those around you. – Eileen Caddy

To begin with, gratitude can be defined as the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

In addition, gratitude helps people:

  • Feel more positive emotions.
  • Relish good experiences.
  • Improve their overall health.
  • Deal with adversity.
  • Build strong relationships.

There are three stages of gratitude that’s important to keep in the forefront of your mind.

Stage 1Recognition. Recognize that you will be okay in any situation.

Stage 2Acknowledgment. Acknowledge that you are grateful for all that you have.

Stage 3Appreciation. Appreciate people in your life who have been there for you.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT GRATITUDE

Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul. – Henry Ward Beecher

Quite frankly, I believe that all good things come from gratitude. If you really think about it, gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. We should live in gratitude each and every day. When you are thankful for what you have, you are always rewarded with more.

Moreover, here’s some additional important facts about gratitude:

  • Gratitude shields you from negativity.
  • Gratitude makes you at least 25% happier.
  • Gratitude helps to rewire your brain.
  • Gratitude eliminates stress and heals your body.

BENEFITS OF SHOWING GRATITUDE

Your ability to see beauty and possibility is proportionate to the level at which you embrace gratitude. – Dr. Steve Maraboli

Next, choosing gratitude in your life offers you an opportunity to see the world with God’s grace and teaches you to appreciate your life as a whole. There are other benefits of showing gratitude in your life, such as gratitude:

  • Helps improve your sleep quality.
  • Deepens your relationships with family and friends.
  • Reduces unnecessary stress in life.
  • Reduces negative emotions and boosts happiness.
  • Helps you feel peace and comfort.
  • Enhances self-esteem and helps you focus on your own abilities.
  • Increases productivity by increasing levels of alertness, confidence, and determination.

Remember, your ability to have and show gratitude in your daily life opens your mind, body, and spirit to an abundance of positivity. May your days be filled with love, happiness, laughter, and gratitude.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! I don’t know about you, but holidays are difficult to navigate through no matter how long your loved one has been gone. For example, my mom has been gone since December 2015, but I still feel sad and depressed on or around holidays. Instead of crying most of the day away, I choose to focus on the power of grief affirmations.

Believe it or not, the power of grief affirmations can help improve your life over time. The word affirmation comes from the Latin affirmare, which means “to strengthen and make steady.” Affirmations are meant to help change your thoughts and move your attention to more empowering ideas that will ultimately create an improved result.

WHAT ARE GRIEF AFFIRMATIONS?

Grief is so human, and it hits everyone at one point or another, at least, in their lives. If you love, you will grieve, and that’s just given. – Kay Redfield Jamison

It’s important to note that everyone experiences grief when we lose something or someone precious to us. After losing our loved one, it can be hard to cope with the shock and sadness. One healthy way for you to cope with grief, is reciting grief affirmations every day.

Grief affirmations are positive statements designed to comfort a grieving person and can be another form of self-care that you can use to better cope with your grief when other people are not around.

Although grief affirmations cannot make the pain of your loss go away, they can:

  • Promote a sense of calm and clarity over your life.
  • Help cultivate an optimistic outlook and boost morale.
  • Increase your self-confidence and uplift your spirit.
  • Help you to process your thoughts, feelings, and emotions better.
  • Address unhealthy beliefs that may be disrupting the grieving process.

Simply put, when used consistently, grief affirmations have the power to transform your life despite how hurt and depressed you may feel after the loss of a loved one.

Grief Affirmations, Renew Inspiration

GRIEF AFFIRMATIONS

Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom. – Rumi

In order for you to experience the power of grief affirmations, it is important for you to feed your spirit with love and include grief affirmations in your daily routine. For example, I choose to feel good about myself and life’s journey each day. Even when I am feeling sad or depressed, deep inside I aspire to be a giver. A giver of life, a giver of hope, and a giver of strength. This kind of thinking will help you overcome life’s challenges, such as grief, and improve your overall well-being.

Here’s a few grief affirmations to help you get started on your journey to healing:

  • I treat myself with kindness, respect and compassion.
  • I am grateful for all the good times we had together.
  • I will remain grateful to you every day.
  • I take comfort in the memories we shared together.
  • I am thankful and feel fortunate to have known you.
  • I give myself time and space to grieve and process my feelings.
  • I appreciate all the love, guidance, and support you gave me.
  • I appreciate how much love and positivity my loved one brought to this world.
  • I trust in the healing process and remain confident.
  • I will give myself time to heal and remain optimistic about the future.
  • I embrace my experiences and know acceptance is the first step to finding peace within.

Repeat the grief affirmations 1 to 2 times per day so it will be a constant reminder of what you are aiming for. Shift your focus and attention towards thoughts and feelings that are both positive and constructive. Start using these affirmations along with journal prompts today, and watch the quality of your life improve throughout your journey. Focus on positive changes and you will get positive results.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! As I sit here thinking about life and what people are experiencing on this day, I cannot help but feel a sense of frustration, anger, loneliness, and sadness. But why? Maybe it is because most people that I observe seemed to have lost the basic fundamentals of life which are love, kindness, and hope. We’ve become selfish individuals who disrespect ourselves and our neighbors. Our society says that it is okay for us to watch people be viciously attacked and murdered because of the color of their skin. But why? We are still in the midst of a pandemic and everyone has not received the covid-19 vaccine, but some states have fully reopened and no longer requires people to wear masks. But why? It’s spring break in most states and people are traveling having a good time while covid-19 cases are increasing and people are still dying from this awful virus. But why? Some of our loved ones have died or have been extremely ill due to covid-19 in the last year, but it seems like society has chosen to overlook the pain and heartache that these people are still feeling today. I know and you know that this is not right, but yet it happens every day.  Today, I choose to be hopeful, not hopeless and press my way to find hope within.

BENEFITS OF FINDING HOPE WITHIN

Hope is the ability to hear the melody of the future. – Unknown Author

Instead of allowing negative feelings to overwhelm you during these difficult times, let’s focus on the benefits of finding hope within. So, where does the thought of finding hope within come from? It’s simple. Deep inside we feel an expectation that something good will happen in the future. Despite all the negativity that goes on around us, most people strive to anticipate positive outcomes in their lives. Believe it or not, finding hope within:

  • Offers one a reason for living.
  • Helps build resilience in the face of adversity.
  • Helps control your emotions and sets the mood for the day.
  • Gives you room for self-expression.
  • Allows you to believe in your dream.
  • Reduces stress and anxiety.
  • Supports mental strength and happiness.
  • Improves overall health and encourages a healthy lifestyle.

WAYS TO EMBRACE HOPE WITHIN YOUR LIFE

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears. – Nelson Mandela

Once you find hope within, it’s important to find ways to embrace it wholeheartedly. After all, hope is our energy, our fuel for living each day. Without hope in our lives, we lack the necessary energy to engage with life itself. Living a hopeful life is to recognize that everything and everyone matters, even you.

Here’s some ways to embrace hope within your life:

  • Regain control of your life and destiny.
  • Recognize that you can change your life at any time.
  • Be mindful of your expectations and shift them when necessary.
  • Disconnect from news outlets and social media often.
  • Listen to another person’s story to help clear your head.
  • Find creative ways to handle stress and disappointment (yoga, meditation, reading).
  • Establish a daily self-care routine that helps to calm you (journaling, to-do list).
  • Create honest and authentic relationships with active listeners and learn to forgive.
  • Develop a daily journal writing habit to release negative experiences and emotions.
  • Get outside and enjoy the big world that surrounds you.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you who celebrate this beautiful day of love. Let’s take this opportunity to discuss a concept called self-love. When I think of self-love, I think of:

  • You accepting yourself fully with no exceptions.
  • You treating yourself with kindness and respect.
  • You nurturing your growth and well-being.

Without self-love, you may:

  • Be highly critical of yourself and others.
  • Fall into the “people pleasing” spectrum.
  • Tolerate abuse or mistreatment from others.
  • Neglect your own needs and feelings.

Self-love like anything else can be defined in different ways by different people. Before we move on, let’s take a moment to define self-love:

Self-Love can be defined as love of self; an appreciation of one’s own worth or virtue; regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.

WAYS TO IMPROVE SELF-LOVE

The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself. – Maya Angelou

Next, it is important to note that self-love not only speaks about how you treat yourself, but it also involves your thoughts and feelings as well. When you show self-love to yourself, you portray an overall positive view of yourself.

Here’s some great ways to improve self-love:

  • Write down and recite affirmations. When you change your internal narrative, you change the way you view yourself. For example, if you are looking for evidence that you are worthy of love, you will truly find love.
  • Forgive yourself when you make mistakes. Remember, you are human and sometimes you will make mistakes. Acknowledge the mistakes, then forgive yourself and move on.
  • Prioritize your health and well-being. Be intentional about what you put into your body and always plan for daily exercise.
  • Find ways to meet your own needs and hold yourself accountable. Always put yourself first and do things that make you happy. If you fall short, hold yourself accountable and make necessary adjustments. Then, move forward.
  • Accept your imperfections and find your happy place. Take a moment to embrace the here and now. Then, think of a place that makes it simple to just be happy.
  • Challenge yourself often. Take time to challenge yourself. Set realistic goals and pursue them daily.
  • Cultivate gratitude in your life. Gratitude helps lead you to happiness. Take time daily to write down what you’re grateful for. Visit this list often to reflect on the goodness of life and all that it brings.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Finding kindness within is not as easy as it sounds. Recently, I have made a commitment to find kindness within and to practice kindness toward others on a daily basis. But what does this really mean? For me, it’s quite simple. To practice kindness, you first must find kindness within (mind, body, spirit) so you can share it with others. Second, you must be kind hearted and be a gentle soul. Third, you must naturally care for others and not be fake about it. Finally, you have to show that you’re not selfish by showing compassion toward others as well as refraining from criticizing and/or judging people throughout your journey.

WAYS TO PRACTICE KINDNESS

Kindness is free. Sprinkle it everywhere. – Unknown Author

Let’s begin by defining kindness. Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate; a kind act. According to The Minds Journal, “kindness is like loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness.”

Here’s some ways to practice kindness throughout your day:

  • Be kind to yourself. Notice your self-talk. Recite positive affirmations. Practice meditation and engage in basic self-care routines.
  • Use your manners often. Saying thank you and you’re welcome are expressions of gratitude. A grateful heart is all it takes to express kindness.
  • Smile at everyone you pass or encounter. I always greet people with a warm smile and a kind word. Whether they respond or not, it makes me feel good.
  • Be generous and give from the heart. Donate money or clothes to charity, volunteer your time to help the needy, or even bring a gift or souvenir whenever you visit a friend. Even at home, we can lend a helping hand by offering to wash the dishes, vacuum the floor, or clean the bathrooms.
  • Help a stranger. You can help someone put their bags in the car, let someone go ahead of you in line, hold the door or elevator, run errands for your friend or neighbor, or hold an umbrella for someone who needs a hand.
  • Send good wishes. Kindness always begins with a thought. Secretly send people good intentions, wishes, and prayer.
  • Give praises. Giving a sincere praise to someone is an act of kindness. By giving recognition to others, we can help them to develop confidence in themselves.
  • Acknowledge a loved one or friend. Take a moment to call a loved one or a friend to catch up instead of sending a text. It’s refreshing to have a heart-to-heart conversation over the phone.
  • Send greeting cards. Send a greeting card just because to let someone know you’re thinking of them. Sometimes, the unexpected cards are the best, and they’ll make a lasting, positive impression.
  • Compliment someone. There has to be something nice you can say to others throughout your day. You could make a compliment about their appearance, smile, hairstyle/haircut, eye glasses, clothes, shoes, presentation or for a job well done.

Here’s some great examples of how you can speak kindness into your life:

  • I speak with kindness and choose to be kind to myself every day.
  • I believe in myself and trust in my abilities to succeed in all I do.
  • I am a beautiful soul that radiates a vibrant and beautiful form.
  • I let the events of today go. I forgive myself and others for any mistakes that were made.
  • I have a kind heart. I am mindful of other people and their feelings.
  • I accept who I am and I love myself.
  • I am worthy of everything good in life.

Offer a kind word or gesture to someone you meet, to someone who serves your community, or even a family member. Notice what happens. From a learning perspective, you’ll see that the effects are cumulative. The more we practice kindness, the better we get at it, it helps build our character, and it becomes who we are.

WAYS TO SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER

May peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through. – Unknown Author

To begin with, holiday cheer can be defined as the comfort or encouragement one feels during the holiday season. Holiday cheer puts you in a good mood and put a happy tune in your heart. If we allow ourselves to be honest and feel the positive sensations inside, then we all could agree that life is always bursting with holiday cheer.

Here’s some ways to spread holiday cheer:

• Be kind toward yourself. Remember, you cannot give what you don’t have.

• Smile. Don’t wait to be happy. Think of something good in your life, smile and see what happens.

• Transform your life by being optimistic and positive. Be helpful and give compliments to others.

• Surprise the people you love with a special gift or flowers just because.

• Say something good about someone or something. Be genuine and spread positive vibes and thoughts.

• Send a card, special note or letter to family, friends, co-workers or neighbors.

• Being authentic and courteous to others by saying words, such as “good morning” or “have a wonderful day”.

• Volunteer for a good cause where you can help others less fortunate than you are. For example, visit a nursing home, hospital, children’s group home or a homeless shelter.

WAYS TO RELIEVE STRESS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Warmest thoughts and best wishes for a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year. – Unknown Author

On the other hand, while living your best life, it is important to find ways to relieve stress during the holiday season. Don’t wait for perfect circumstances to experience a stress-free atmosphere.

Here’s some ways to relieve stress during the holiday season:

• Take calm-down breaks to meditate, read a good book or just do nothing.

• Stay active and get moving by exercising, doing yoga, walking or trying a new class at the gym.

• Be generous and kind by volunteering at the local shelter/food bank or donating money to your favorite charity.

• Smile and laugh often by watching holiday movies, playing boardgames or enjoying quality time with family and friends.

• Plan a YOU day by getting a massage, manicure, pedicure or getting a new hair style.

As I stated before, feeling holiday cheer grows from the inside, then you are allowed to spread it to others along your journey. Learning to live in the present moment is part of the path you take towards holiday cheer. Don’t let the holidays become something you dread. Instead, take steps to prevent stress that can descend during the holidays. It can be quite a rewarding experience to brighten up someone’s day by extending an act of kindness or just simply smiling at someone as you pass by. However, it is essential for you to bring holiday cheer to yourself which leads to a happy and stress-free life.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! This morning I pause to bless my day and it is a beautiful gift from God. Today, I am celebrating my 46th birthday and I wanted to celebrate life with you. Now, what better way to celebrate than to write an inspirational blog post just for you. We should always make each new day a celebration of life. Why you ask? Well, it is quite simple. Every day is a fresh start. Always remember, what you celebrate expands to something bigger so celebrate life often. Throw kindness around like confetti.

Today, right in this present moment, I want to take time to reflect on my amazing life. I honestly look at where I am today, and I look at how I came to be here. I acknowledge the darkness and the light that shines within. Each day I focus on my vision of positive changes that I need to make in my life so that I may heal and grow in the most beautiful way possible. However, I do realize this journey has no rules, no right or wrong answers. I accept my journey for what it is, and I acknowledge that only I can do my healing work. I choose to feel good about myself each day. I am blessed. I am beautiful. I am brave. I am fearless. I am happy. I am bold. I am strong. I am enough. I aspire to be a giver. A giver of live, a giver of good vibes and a giver of strength. Today I fill my heart with love and embrace this wonderful, new life experience.

Kindness is the language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. – Mark Twain

You must be kind hearted and be a gentle soul. You must naturally care for others and not be fake about it. Then, you have to show that you’re not selfish by showing compassion toward others as well as refraining from criticizing and/or judging people throughout your journey.

Believe it or not, kindness actually reduces stress, anxiety, and depression. Also, kindness can put us and others at ease while we’re interacting with one another. Try it next time you’re out and about. Offer a kind word or gesture to someone you meet, to someone who serves your community, or even a family member. Notice what happens. From a learning perspective, you’ll see that the effects are cumulative. The more we practice kindness, the better we get at it, it helps build our character, and it becomes who we are.

DEFINITION

Kindness (noun) – the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate; a kind act.

FUN FACTS

Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change. – Bob Kerrey

• World Kindness Day is a day that was started in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement. This day is celebrated on November 13th in several countries all over the world, such as United States, Italy, India, Singapore, Nigeria, Japan, Australia, and Canada.

• Kindness is considered a virtue and is recognized as a value in many cultures and religions.

• National Random Acts of Kindness Day was started in 2004 by New Zealand and is observed on February 17th. This day can be celebrated by individuals, groups, and organizations nationwide to encourage acts of kindness.

• Kindness is a natural antidepressant because it causes a release of serotonin in our brain.

• Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAK) is a US nonprofit that was founded in 1995 and has its headquarters in Denver, CO.

WAYS TO PRACTICE KINDNESS

Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness. – Seneca

Here’s some ways to practice kindness throughout your day:

Be kind to yourself. Notice your self-talk. Recite positive affirmations. Practice meditation and engage in basic self-care routines.

Use your manners often. Saying thank you and you’re welcome are expressions of gratitude. A grateful heart is all it takes to express kindness.

Smile at everyone you pass or encounter. I always greet people with a warm smile and a kind word. Whether they respond or not, it makes me feel good.

Greet people with a friendly hug. A good hug can lift someone’s spirits or make them feel loved and appreciated.

Be generous and give from the heart. Donate money or clothes to charity, volunteer your time to help the needy, or even bring a gift or souvenir whenever you visit a friend. Even at home, we can lend a helping hand by offering to wash the dishes, vacuum the floor, or clean the bathrooms.

Help a stranger. You can help someone put their bags in the car, let someone go ahead of you in line, hold the door or elevator, run errands for your friend or neighbor, or hold an umbrella for someone who needs a hand.

Send good wishes. Kindness always begins with a thought. Secretly send people good intentions, wishes, and prayer.

Give praises. Giving a sincere praise to someone is an act of kindness. By giving recognition to others, we can help them to develop confidence in themselves.

Call a loved one or friend. Take a moment to call a loved one or a friend to catch up instead of sending a text. It’s refreshing to have a heart-to-heart conversation over the phone.

Send greeting cards. Send a greeting card just because to let someone know you’re thinking of them. Sometimes, the unexpected cards are the best, and they’ll make a lasting, positive impression.

DAILY AFFIRMATIONS – SPEAK KINDNESS

In a world where you can be anything, be kind. – Unknown Author

Here’s some great examples of how you can speak kindness into your life:

• I believe in myself and trust in my abilities to succeed in all I do.

• I am a beautiful soul that radiates a vibrant and beautiful form. All is well in my body and mind.

• I let the events of today go. I forgive myself and others for any mistakes that were made. I am ready to start fresh with a new day tomorrow.
