Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! I cannot believe it’s been over a week since I’ve sent out an inspirational blog post to encourage you in some way. I truly apologize, but some days I find it difficult to maintain a positive attitude while trying to cope with life challenges. For example, every time you look around we are forced to deal with racial injustices and gun violence happening all around us. In addition, I am still working from home while helping my children with their virtual learning each day and trying to stay on track with writing my first book.

Despite all of this going on around me, today I choose to have a positive attitude and look at my life in a new way. By making this one choice, I will set myself up to receive beautiful blessings from on high. I will focus on what I have control over and nothing else. After all, a great attitude becomes a great mood. Which becomes a great day. Which becomes a great year. Which becomes a great life.

In life, two things define you:

  • Your patience when you have nothing.
  • And your attitude when you have everything.

DEFINITIONS – ATTITUDE & AWARENESS

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. – Unknown Author

Let’s start this discussion off with the definitions of attitude and awareness.

Attitude is defined as a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.

Awareness is defined as the quality or state of being aware; concern about and well-informed interest in a particular situation or development.

Now, your attitude is like a price tag, it shows how valuable you are on the inside and out. As you travel along this journey called life, it is important to embrace the moment you’re in which provides opportunities for self-awareness.

10 WAYS TO IMPROVE ATTITUDE AWARENESS

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. – Maya Angelou

Well, what’s the best way to improve attitude awareness? You start this process by training yourself to be mindfully aware of what is happening in your life right now, in this moment. Awareness balances thinking and reduces anxiety. Keep in mind, anxiety is focused on the past or the future and awareness is grounded in the present.

Here’s 10 ways to improve attitude awareness in your life:

#1 – In life, always act with a purpose.

Make sure that your actions are aligned with your values and who you are as a person. Have a true understanding of why you’re doing whatever it is that you’ve set out to do.

#2 – Stretch yourself past your limits every day.

Create a daily to-do list and strive to push yourself out of your comfort zone. As Brian Tracy says, “You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” This will keep your life fresh and exciting while challenging yourself to get to the next level.

#3 – Don’t expect huge results, just do your best.

Set goals and make decisions without pressuring yourself about the outcome. After all, we want to achieve greatness in life without feeling disappointment if we miss the mark. Plan ahead and do your best.

#4 – Use setbacks to improve your skills.

Examine where you are in this moment to see if there is any room for improvement. Remember, the results you receive prepares you for the results you want to achieve.

#5 – Seek out those who share your positive attitude.

Choose to be around people who share your same values, thoughts and positive attitude. You want to have people in your life to lift you up, not tear you down.

AMAZON RESOURCE #2

#6 – Always say “Please” and “Thank you”.

Being polite to others helps keep you grounded in positivity. If you want to improve your attitude use “Please” and “Thank you” with a smile on your face every single time you are given the opportunity.

#7 – Don’t compare yourself to others.

I know it’s easier said than done, but don’t spend a lot of time comparing yourself to others. This one action may cause you to begin thinking negatively towards your own life. Spare yourself the grief and focus on your own life and adjust your attitude accordingly.

#8 – Start your day with prayer, meditation, and stretching.

Every day when we rise, it’s important to be grounded on a positive foundation. Recite a simple prayer from your heart, then meditate on your words allowing your mind to be free. Afterwards, spend time stretching your body. You will feel refreshed and ready to take on any task that presents itself.

#9 – Live in the present moment.

Become more mindful and take each day one moment at a time. Plan ahead using a daily to-do list, calendar or a planner. Be careful not to over extend yourself by overlapping appointments. Allow time to take a walk outside or to do nothing at all. Your body will thank you.

#10 – Be grateful for everything you have.

Start every day with an attitude of gratitude. Give thanks for all that you have each and every day. When you rise in the morning, thank God for waking you up and for being your provider. Then, write down some things in your journal that you are grateful for. Repeat this action in the evening before you go to bed as well.

Attitude awareness is the first step to building a positive attitude. As you go through life, always expose yourself to positive information and hang around positive people so you will achieve positive results. Whatever life throws at you at any given time, even if it hurts, plant your feet on solid ground and be strong throughout the process. Remember, strong walls shake, but never collapse. Peace and blessings!

JOURNAL PROMPTS

Where there is hope, there is faith. Where there is faith, miracles happen. – Unknown Author

I love journaling because it is a safe place for me to put my feelings and emotions into words, then put my words into action. Remember, journaling is your very own personal journey throughout life, your ups and downs, your successes and failures. In addition, journaling is a powerful way to process events in your life, build self-awareness, get more clarity, and keep yourself on track. Journaling also allows for past reflection, future insight, and present surrender. Keep in mind that this is a journey and be patient with yourself. Ready, set, write!

Mind

  • Meditate and think about only positive thoughts. Then, write about your thoughts.
  • When you close your eyes, what do you always dream about? Write about it.
  • If you could paint a picture of your favorite memory, what would it look like?

Body

  • Live in the moment right now, describe the feeling and everything around you.
  • What is the most complicated part of your life right now?
  • Do you adapt easily to change or is it hard for you?

Spirit

  • You’re looking through the window to your soul, what do you see?
  • What is the biggest thing you want to change about yourself?
  • Do you wish you could press the reset button on anything in your life? If so, what?

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you. – Maya Angelou

Something to Think About – Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! There are many reasons why people start blogging. Some people start blogging as a hobby and for some people it’s a career. According to Dictionary.com, blogging is defined as a website containing a writer’s or group of writers’ own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other websites, a single entry or post on such a website.

MY STORY

I started my Renew Inspiration blog simply to inspire others using my own personal experiences, creative writing and research. But why? Well, when my mother passed away in December 2015 a piece of me left and never returned. I have lost other loved ones in the past, but losing your mother is a hurt that you just cannot explain. Unfortunately, I could not express how I felt so I became depressed and angry. I began writing how I felt every day. Then, someone told me to write letters to my mother expressing how much I missed her. Guess what? It worked. Shortly after I started journaling to help me cope with the grieving process. Writing became my passion and my coping mechanism. Eventually, I did seek professional help as well because my depression was getting worse and I even felt anxiety throughout my life as well. In January 2018, I decided that I wanted to take my writing to the next level. But how? I was surfing online and came across a Word Press and Blue Host ad. I clicked on it to find out more information and the blogger provided the necessary information to start my own blog. Setting up my Renew Inspiration blog was a challenging experience, but yet rewarding at the same time. Through this experience, I found my true passion, inspiring my supportive audience (that’s you) through writing in the form of blogging. So, thank you for believing in me and taking the time to visit my blog often. Remember, this experience is not complete without you.

WHY IS BLOGGING POPULAR

Blogging is popular these days for many reasons.

• First, search engines love new content, and as a result, blogging is a great search engine optimization (SEO) tool.

• Second, blogging provides an easy way to keep your readers, customers or clients up-to-date on what’s going on, let them know about new deals, and provide tips. The more a customer comes to your blog, the more likely they are to spend money.

• Third, blogging allows you to build trust and rapport with your readers. You are able to build your expertise and credibility on a subject matter. Also, you are able to interact with the readers in the comment section.

• Fourth, blogging is a way for some people to make money. Along with your product or service, blogs can generate income from other options, such as advertising and affiliate products.

• Fifth, blogging is flexible and portable, making it a great option for people who strive to become an entrepreneur.

DOWNSIDE TO BLOGGING

Blogging is popular because it is a great marketing tool and helps you make money, but it also has a downside.

• Blogging requires a commitment and takes a great deal of time to manage. For blogs to be effective at SEO and engaging readers, it needs to be updated regularly.

• Blogging involves creativity and you having a passion to write about things you enjoy. To keep the content flowing, you have to keep the readers engaged with awesome ideas, tips or suggestions.

• Blogging can provide income for some people, but the payoff is not immediate. One of the biggest frustrations with blogging is that it is time-consuming with little payoff in the beginning. It takes time to build up a readership and momentum.

HOW TO START A BLOG

The good news is that starting a blog or adding a blog to your existing website is easy and affordable.

Step 1 – Setting Up Blog

There are free blog options such as WordPress.com or Blogger, but to retain control and professional image, consider investing in a domain name and hosting, and installing WordPress or other content management system on your host.

Step 2 – Add Content

Once your blog is up and running, you need to keep it active with new and fresh content to grow your readership. I would suggest developing a set schedule for writing and posting to your blog.

Step 3 – Marketing

Great ways to reach your market are through social media, an email list and reaching out to other bloggers.

Step 4 – Add Income Streams

You can promote other companies’ products and services in affiliate marketing. Most companies, such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target and Kohls offer this program. You can also offer advertising or feed ad networks, such as AdSense, on to your blog.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Do you trust and believe in God’s timing? As I thought about writing this blog, I could not help but think about how God can take our sadness and turn it into a joyful experience or vice versa. Only God can do that, right? For example, as I sat and watched the Aretha Franklin’s Celebration of Life, I started thinking to myself about the timing of her death. Even though Aretha touched so many lives with her music and left a legacy that no one could ever replace, why did she have to die when she did? Well, I guess I asked the same question when my dad passed away in 2003 and when my mom passed away in 2015. I am sure that you have probably asked the same question too when you have lost a loved one. Aretha, my dad and my mom had something in common. Their lives were interrupted with a terrible illness that kept them in pain constantly. No one wants to live in pain and suffering. I do realize that we all have to leave this earthly body at some point, but I don’t think we can ever prepare ourselves for death. What are your thoughts? Well, I honestly believe that God’s timing is accurate, so it is important for us to believe it, trust it and allow it to work in our lives. Remember, God will always answer our prayers when you least expect it.

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. – E. E. Cummings

So, what does courage have to do with trusting and believing? Well, courage is doing things even when you’re scared, right? It is possible for you to be scared to trust and believe in various situations as well. Remember to be brave isn’t something that happens when you’re not scared anymore. Believe it or not, brave people don’t stop hearing the whispers of fear. They hear the whispers in their head and choose to take action anyway. For example, being brave is hearing that voice of fear in your head, but saying, “Okay, but the truth is, God made me on purpose and for a purpose.” I can tell you that the moments of my greatest fears have also been the open doors to the greatest changes in my life. So, I step out, full of fear, but trusting that God is on the other side in new and wonderful ways. And so far, God always is, and will be for you too!

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13 NIV)

Keep honoring God with your life, stay in peace, trust his timing and God will open doors that no man can shut.

Speak from Within

Speak from Within

My soul finds rest in God alone: my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Today, I want to share some inspirational words with you with a message titled “Speak from Within”. Now, this is a message that you will have to open your heart and be willing to feel the words throughout your soul. I want you to read these words and meditate on what the message really means to you.

Overcomer: 25 Keys to Walking Victoriously

Before we get started, please make sure you have the following:
• Mind – An open mind; Meditation ready
• Body – Willingness to express oneself; Eager to move from one place to another freely
• Spirit – Humble and caring spirit; Broken soul
• Journal or Notebook
• Pen or Pencil

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. Romans 8:11

What is the message that you need on today? What is it that you need to focus on within your life, right now, in this very moment? I’m stronger because I had to be, I’m smarter because of my mistakes, happier because of the sadness I’ve known, and now wiser because I learned. During our life long journey, it is important for us to speak positive words into our soul. It is important for us to speak success into our inner being. Despite the hurt we may feel or the sadness we experience in life, often times we forget that the power to overcome life’s challenges is already inside you and me. If you feel lost, it is because the heart and mind are not working in harmony, when they work together you will find peace.

Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live. -Anne Sweeney

strength, wisdom, peace

Depression and grief may rise up within me, but I meditate on positive thoughts to overcome this feeling. But sometimes that is not enough. I’m going to be honest, this is truly a difficult time for me because I have to feel the sadness and experience the grief from my mother’s death. No one can prepare you for the emptiness inside after losing your mother or any loved one for that matter. No words can comfort your heart after it is broken in many pieces. I look up at my mother’s picture and father’s picture every day and think about all of the positive memories that are carefully stored away in my mind and in my heart. Sometimes I shed tears and sometimes I just pick up a pen and just start writing. Now, this is my testimony or life experience however you want to define it. What is your story or experience? It is important to allow yourself to feel and to express honestly. I survived throughout my journey because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me. I had to reflect on scriptures that are hidden in my heart in order to rise up above my problems, situations, depression, sadness, hurt, etc.

Don’t mistake God’s patience for His absence. His timing is perfect, and His presence is constant. He’s always with you! Deuteronomy 31:6

Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

With God there is no limit to what you can do. There is no obstacle you can’t overcome. Through Him, all things are possible. Matthew 19:26

Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny. -C.S. Lewis

As I get older, I realize that decisions become easier when your will to please God outweighs your will to please the world. I know that is a lot to accept at times, but it is truly a choice that you and I have to make each day we wake up. Know that your words, thoughts, and actions speak into your very existence throughout your journey. Whether you agree with me or not, it is important for you to understand where you are. You don’t owe others nothing in life, but you owe everything to yourself. Examine your priorities and make the necessary adjustments in order to make time for personal growth.

Don’t underestimate me. I know more than I say, think more than I speak, and notice more than you realize.

Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?

Greatness is hearing your truth and speaking it, no matter how your voice shakes. -Mel Robbins

In the Midst of it All

In the Midst of it All

In the midst of life’s greatest storms, do not forget your divine heritage as a son or daughter of God. -Ronald A. Rasband

In the midst of it all, what do you feel? What are your thoughts? How do you cope with every day struggles of life? Now, I realize my struggles may be different from your struggles, but can we agree that it takes a strategy to not only cope with the struggles of life, but to overcome such struggles?

Let’s face it, painful life experiences often leave heart-deep scars within us. Even though danger is long past, fear still lingers around us. It affects our present relationships and experiences, and even our perception of God. We may never know why it has happened to us, but we do know that we can and will survive it. We also know that God has given us a new day and a new season to reach out for His blessings in joy and gratitude. Painful experiences leave scars within us, but they also leave strength and wisdom in the midst of the storm, giving us the opportunity to help those enduring similar trials now.

JOURNAL PROMPTS:
• Find a quote to live by and write it down. Then, write a journal entry.
• What book has influenced your life?
• What are you grateful for?
• Define your struggles and create a plan to overcome them.

Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions. -Unknown

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM

Sometimes I feel tangled up in my emotions. Trying my hardest to break free. Emotional freedom is almost at my fingertips, but it is difficult to trust myself to move in the right direction. Can I control my emotions or do my emotions control me? I ask myself this question every day. How about you?

Emotional freedom is what we all strive for while on this journey called life. Trying to live a healthier lifestyle. But let’s be honest my friends, the struggle to emotional freedom is real and sometimes scary. The temptations and challenges are real, such as unhealthy foods, drinks, not enough time to exercise, health issues…the list can go on and on. But once again, I ask myself daily…Can I control my emotions or do my emotions control me?

I am a survivor, a fighter, a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a friend. Yes, I am all of these things, but most of all, I am strong enough to overcome this emotional struggle. I am strong enough to make a commitment to not only myself, but also to my loved ones. I am strong enough to control my roller coaster of feelings, desires, and personal choices in life. So, I ask myself and you should ask yourself…Can I control my emotions or do my emotions control me?

Emotional freedom is within our reach, but we must stay focused and keep pushing toward our ultimate goal…to be at peace, happy and free of all negative feelings that sometimes hide within.

JOURNAL PROMPTS:
• How do you see the world? Describe it in detail.
• Share a vivid dream.
• How have you changed in the past year?
• What are your priorities in life?

There is one sure way to know that you are doing exactly what God wants you to do, you will be at peace. Not every day, not all the time, but even in the midst of hard times and confusion you will feel good about what you are doing. Even when it seems like you are getting nowhere, you will know there is absolutely nothing else on earth you can do other than what you are doing. It’s called being on purpose. There will be times when you want to walk away, but you won’t. You can’t. Perhaps the money will not show up fast enough, but some way, somehow, you will have just enough to handle the task at hand.

Every day, every hour, and every minute has a purpose. God has a plan for you. Continue to trust that. He is taking you great places. -Unknown

You will be so intent on finding the happiness and success you know you deserve, you will be at peace. In peace, you find God’s purpose for you.

SOLID FOUNDATION

Jesus, cross, died, sins

A solid foundation is the most important part of a building. Without a solid foundation, the building won’t last very long. Unfortunately, the building could crumble or fall apart at any time, especially if stress is placed on it by a storm.

The Bible encourages people to build their lives on the solid rock of Christ, rooted securely in Him (see Matthew 7:24-27 and Ephesians 3:17). If you try to build your life on what people say and think of you, how they treat you, how you feel, or your past mistakes, you are building on sinking sand. But if you trade that old, cracked foundation for a solid foundation, one based on Christ and His love, nothing can shake you.

JOURNAL PROMPTS:
• What is your favorite scripture that you have hidden in your heart?
• What or who gives you comfort during difficult times?
• What can you do to nurture your mind, body, and spirit more?
• What has been going well in your life lately?

JOURNALING – TIME FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION

journaling, book, flowers, writing
pixabay

Journaling helps you make sense of your emotions and pinpoint patterns. Journaling helps to reduce stress, solve problems more effectively and even improve your overall health.
One way to practice journaling is to write about a good life experience. Not only does this remind you that there’s life beyond bad feelings, but it also serves as an emotional anchor. When you describe a happy memory in your journal, you will be mentally reinforcing that memory so that it might occur to you later in life while you’re going through difficult times.

Now, let’s practice this exercise to access your anchor:

I remember a good feeling _______ [when]. I simply felt ______________ [describe the feeling in a few words]. I was __________________ [where], and I remember noticing _________________ [something sensory]. It was a time in my life when I was doing ________________ [an activity or a general description]. I’ll never forget ________________ [people, weather, environment, etc.] around me. I’ll never be right there again but I know I CAN feel that way again.

Overcome by Grief / Faith Explosion

Overcome by Grief / Faith Explosion

Flower, water, grief

When I first started the Renew Inspiration blog, my thought process was to write inspirational pieces that would not only inspire you, but also would keep you thinking of ways to overcome life changing events, such as the death of a loved one. Honestly, I would love to have a real dialogue with you concerning this topic. Do you think that it is possible to overcome grief in your life time? Now, I know that’s a deep question and I am sure that everyone reading this blog would probably give a different answer. For me, I often ask myself if I would ever overcome the grief that I feel each and every day. I do realize that everyone handles grief differently, but the pain of losing someone you dearly love can be overwhelming for most people. Would you agree?

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 18:2

When you are broken in pieces and experiencing so much pain, God can seem distant and even uncaring while you are in this vulnerable, yet lonely place. But before you throw in the towel or choose to give up on living life to the fullest, know that God promises in His Word to be with you always and to give you comfort in the midst of your storm, so whatever your feelings are suggesting to you in this very dark moment, know that God is with you always.

For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. Psalm 48:14

Here’s another twist to an already complicated situation, but it is something for you to think about. While you are trying to overcome grief and wondering if God still loves you, then comes the faith concept to help put everything in total perspective. As we venture through our lives on Earth, we have faith in a God that we cannot see. I have always been taught to have faith in God, to read my Bible, and to say my faith-based prayers, but deep down inside I have always wondered how strong my faith really was in a God that I could not see. When my mom passed away in December 2015, my faith in God was tested to the fullest! I read my Bible, prayed and meditated until I received my break through. Then, I started writing in my journal constantly and that’s how Renew Inspiration was created.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

So, what is faith and how do you define it?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Faith can be defined as confidence, trust, assurance, conviction, and belief. Faith means trusting that God is in control, even when our faith is put to the test. In other words, faith is not just what we believe in our hearts, our religious doctrine or denominational creed, but also and more importantly, faith is a solid conviction within that what we believe and whom we believe in are worth staking our lives on. Would you agree?

For we walk by faith, not by sight. II Corinthians 5:7

Along this journey called life, we have to open our hearts and minds to a true understanding of life’s many challenges and faith, of what it is and what it is not, in our lives and abroad. It’s important to know that faith is something to be experienced and exercised, not defined, categorized, and neatly packaged on a shelf. Faith rests on a solid foundation. The evidence is everywhere before our eyes. Go ahead, look around you right now, in this very moment. God is able to persuade our hearts and our minds to put our trust in Him. When we find faith, we will know it because God will open our spiritual eyes to see that faith is our loyalty and devotion to God. So, when you are wondering how strong your faith is, just look up, smile, and say that I have faith in God that everything will be okay!
