Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! This is a great time of the year to discuss setting goals. But not just any goals. Let’s discuss setting goals to achieve success. Some people are inspired to dance, to sing, to draw, to become a doctor, an engineer, a teacher, an entrepreneur, to do mission work, to lose weight, to be great parents, and even to become the President of the United States.
What does all of these have in common? Well, in order to stay inspired to do great things in life, you have to set goals to achieve success whether it is on a personal, academic, or career level. Then, you have to be disciplined enough to work hard and show your passion for whatever you set your heart out to do.

SMART GOALS
A goal should scare you a little, and excite you a lot. – Joe Vitale
First, a SMART goal is a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time based. In addition, SMART goals are very clear and easily understood.
• S – Specific (or Significant)
• M – Measurable (or Meaningful)
• A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented)
• R – Relevant (or Rewarding)
• T – Time-bound (or Trackable)
It is important to consider what you want to achieve in life, and then you must commit to it. Start with setting SMART goals that motivate you. Next, write your SMART goals down to make them feel tangible.
Here’s an example of a SMART goal:
• Simple Goal – I want to improve my health.
• Smart Goal – I will improve my health by eating 100 grams of protein, drinking 64oz of water and exercising every day.
If you start now, you’ll begin seeing results one day earlier than if you start tomorrow.

WHY SET GOALS?
The harder you work for something, the greater you’ll feel when you achieve it. – Unknown Author
I’ve learned that people set goals for many reasons. For example, setting goals may give you long-term vision and short-term motivation. Also, the goal setting process helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the most of your life. When you set clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals.
Here’s a few additional reasons why people set goals:
• To decide what you want to achieve in your life.
• To separate what’s important from what’s irrelevant or a distraction.
• To motivate and inspire yourself to be better each day.
• To build your self-confidence, based on successful achievement of goals.
