BLOGTOBER WRITING CHALLENGE

Serious writers write, inspired or not. Over time they discover that routine is a better friend than inspiration. – Ralph Keyes

Today, Blogtober starts in the writing and blogging community. If you’re like me and never heard of Blogtober before, no need to worry. Blogtober is a writing challenge where bloggers from all over the world publish new and exciting content every day during the month of October or as often as they want. From my knowledge, there are no official rules to follow, but some bloggers take this opportunity to:

• Be more creative with their writing style and content.

• Write and publish content outside of their niche.

• Write and publish Halloween type content.

• Write and publish seasonal type content.

• Mix Halloween, the fall season, and their niche.

• Share encouraging and helpful content more often.

As you can see, there is no right or wrong way to do this writing challenge.

AMAZON RESOURCE #2

I plan to use this opportunity to focus my writing on AUTUMN related topics.

Here’s a few AUTUMN related topics that will be coming your way very soon:

• Reflections of autumn

• Fall self-care routines

• Favorite autumn books

• Favorite autumn activities

The main objective is to challenge yourself doing what you love – encouraging, inspiring, teaching, helping, writing and blogging! Instead of focusing on writing and publishing blog posts daily, I prefer to set other goals for myself. I plan to write and publish 10 to 15 inspirational blog posts related to AUTUMN which would challenge me on so many levels, such as home/work balance, time management, and writing quality content at a faster pace than I am used to. I am up for the challenge and I hope you enjoy reading my future blog posts.

Special Thought – I keep myself busy with things to do, but every time I pause, I still think of you.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Today I want to share my personal feelings about grief and pet loss. Many of us share an intense love and bond with our pets. I don’t know about you, but I feel that a pet is not “just a dog” or “just a cat,” but rather a beloved member of your family. Pets offer you companionship, fun, and joy to your life.

In addition, for some people, a pet can also:

• Add structure to your day
• Keep you active and social
• Help you to overcome setbacks and challenges in life
• Provide a sense of meaning or purpose

This has been an emotional week for me and my family. Our Boxer/Sharpei mix was 15 years old and suffered pains due to arthritis. Within the last three years, we’ve watched our beloved pet experience declining health on various levels so we agreed to put him down on Friday when he could no longer eat and move freely on his own. This was the most difficult decision I’ve had to make in a very long time.

AMAZON RESOURCE # 1

HOW TO KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME TO PUT A PET TO SLEEP

Deciding to put your pet to sleep is one of the most difficult decisions you will ever have to make for your pet. As a loving pet owner, though, the time may come when you need to help your pet make the transition from life to death. Important things to consider include:

• Activity level – Does your pet still enjoy previously loved activities or are they able to be active at all?

• Response to care and affection – Does your pet still interact and respond to love and care in the usual ways?

• Amount of pain and suffering – Is your pet experiencing pain and suffering which outweigh any pleasure and enjoyment in life?

• Terminal illness or critical injury – Have illness or injury prohibited your pet from enjoying life?

• Your family’s feelings – Is your family unanimous in the decision? If not, and you still feel it is the best thing for your pet, can you live with the decision that you have to make?

If you decide that ending the suffering is in your pet’s best interest, take your time to create a process that is as peaceful as possible for you, your pet, and your family.

HEALTHY WAYS TO COPE WITH THE GRIEF OF PET LOSS

Grieving is a highly individual experience. Sorrow and grief are normal responses to death. Believe it or not, coping with grief and pet loss can only be dealt with over time, but here’s some healthy ways to help cope with the grief of pet loss:

• Don’t let anyone tell you how to feel. Remember, your grief is your own. Allow yourself to feel whatever you feel without embarrassment or judgment.

• Reach out to others who have lost pets. Check out online message boards and pet loss support groups.

• Create a legacy for your pet by planting a tree in memory of your pet or compiling a photo album or scrapbook.

• Look after yourself. The stress of losing a pet can quickly deplete your energy and emotional reserves. Eat a healthy diet, get plenty of sleep, and exercise regularly.

• Seek professional help if you need it. If your grief is persistent and interferes with your ability to function, your doctor or a mental health professional can evaluate you for depression.

EMBRACE YOUR PERSONAL JOURNEY EVERY DAY

It’s never too early or too late to work toward being the healthiest you. – Unknown Author

Take a moment and visualize your life as you want it to be. Go to a quiet, private environment for 15 minutes every day where you can close your eyes and imagine your body, environment, relationships, and life in ways that please you. Always remember, what has been has nothing to do with what will be, and what others experience has nothing to do with your experience. This is the moment where you must find a way to separate yourself from all of the past and from the others in order to be what you want to be. Then, you will be able to embrace your personal journey one step at a time.

Believe it or not, you have within you, right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you. Do you believe this? Sometimes you have to be your own hero. Do you have the courage to do so? Just because you are struggling throughout your personal journey does not mean you are failing. Keep believing and the good things will happen. Always remember the one who falls and gets back up is so much stronger than the one who never fell at all. Your purpose is to fully be all that you are. Now, think about that for a moment. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself with confidence – I BELIEVE IN THE PERSON I’M BECOMING!

Positive Mantra – Positive Mind + Positive Vibes = Positive Life

WALKING FOR FITNESS

Don’t let the scale define you. Be active. Eat healthy. Be happy. – Unknown Author

Walking for fitness is such a great way to get in your exercise. Depending on the weather, you can walk outdoors around your neighborhood or you can visit your local park to walk through the nature trail. Well, in Michigan the weather can be somewhat tricky, especially in the winter, so I choose to do my walk workouts in the comfort of my own home. One good thing that I have found, is when you choose to walk for fitness, you are in control of how fast you move or when it is important for you to slow down and rest. Remember, a consistent, moderate pace offers good cardiovascular benefits, but interval training delivers those gains sooner and in a shorter workout. Also, there is no wrong or right way to do a walk workout, just get up and start walking for fitness!

Here’s some additional health benefits when walking for fitness:

• Boosting your spirits and creativity

• Helping to clear your mind

• Protecting you from heart disease

• Lowering the rate of weight gain

• Strengthening your memory

• Decreasing your risk from some cancers

Well, what are you waiting for? Let’s start WALKING for better health and fitness!

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Today, I want to speak about trusting yourself whole again. It is hard to trust other people when you don’t trust yourself. Thought for today – Have patience and wait for the things you want most. Don’t chase it. Don’t run after it. If God wants you to have it, He will give it to you. Amen.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Today I want to discuss a topic that truly impacts your mind, body, and spirit. Your total well-being depends on the decision for you to surrender your life to God. Every thought, every choice, and every move we make throughout our journey is based on how we build our spiritual foundation. Do we believe in a Higher Power? Do we trust God enough to allow Him to guide our every step? I don’t know about you, but I always think about this topic. At what point do you feel comfortable enough to surrender your all and all to God?

DEFINE

Before you can attempt to answer any of these questions, it is important to understand what the word “surrender” means. The word “surrender” is defined as to yield, give up or over, submit, abandon, relinquish, cede, waive, or capitulate. Unfortunately, in some Bible translations, the word “surrender” is not found, but the concepts of “yielding” (Romans 6:16-19) or “submitting” (James 4:7) are used instead.

Take a moment and answer these questions:

• Does something in your life seem out of control?

• Do you have more problems than solutions?

• Do you feel like you’re stuck or at a standstill in life?

• Are you overwhelmed no matter how hard you try?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s time for you to surrender your life to God. No excuses, no exceptions, just do it!

GOD SAYS

God says, remember these four things while living your best life:

• I will make a way for you.

• I’m fighting your battles.

• Prayer is the best medicine.

• Trust my timing.

I realize that God has given me a choice to believe and receive His blessings each and every day, but it all depends on when I make the decision to surrender my life to Him. Just like anything else in life, this decision may not be an easy one to make. However, it is a necessary one.

WAYS TO SURRENDER MY LIFE

Life is a balance between what we can control and what we cannot. I am learning to live between effort and surrender. – Danielle Orner

Here’s some creative ways to surrender my life to God:

Believe and Obey God – First, I must believe in God. God’s direction isn’t always the easiest way, but God does make it clear that sometimes we only need to be still and let Him handle the rest. Remember, obedience is key.

Stop Striving and Start Abiding – We don’t have to strive to make our life turn out a certain way. Instead, we need to abide in God and allow Him to work miracles in our lives.

Confess and Surrender Your Need for Control – Go to God in prayer and confession. Ask God to help you surrender control each and every day. Focus on trusting in God and not being afraid to surrender your life.

Be Still and Know – God delivers us, protects us, fights for us, and expects us to trust Him throughout life experiences. Be still and know this to be true.

Trust God – It’s important to know that trusting in God is a lifelong process. We must learn how to submit our thoughts, trials, and emotions to God. This will not only lighten your burden, but God will make your path straight.

Seek God – If we diligently seek God in all we do, He will direct your steps.

Remember God knows your every thought and he knows what your heart is really feeling. No matter how hard we may try to act a certain way, if our actions are not sincere, God will know it. Be true to yourself, to others, and most importantly, be true to God who should be the head of your life.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Let’s welcome September in today with a positive attitude and discussion related to the following topics – seasons, meditation, personal changes, and restoring our soul.

Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there. – Deepak Chopra

Now, that summer is coming to an end, what comes to mind as you think about moving from season to season? How can you connect your mind, body, and spirit during this time? For me, I always associate seasons with personal change. Changes in the weather, changes in your attitude, changes in your home, changes in relationships, etc. In some ways moving from season to season offers you an opportunity to reflect on meditation (mind), personal changes (body), and restoring your soul (spirit).

Did you know…

• Meditation reduces stress?
• Meditation helps with clearing your thinking?
• Meditation increases our capacity for empathy and compassion?

Meditation, when practiced regularly, can bring about a true personal transformation from the inside out. As you allow yourself to experience your inner peace and security, you will naturally begin to discover aspects of yourself that were previously hidden due to stress. Keep in mind, when practicing meditation, your body undergoes a structural change, which demonstrates the profound impact of simply sitting down, perfectly still, with your eyes closed, breathing deeply nice and slow. Meditation relaxes the entire brain and places your entire body in a calm way of living. Simply put, meditation is spending quality time with your soul and not allowing anything or anybody to distract you.

If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place. – Lao Tzu

Here’s some mental benefits of meditation:

• Anxiety decreases
• Emotional stability improves
• Creativity increases
• Happiness increases
• Gain clarity and peace of mind
• Problems become smaller
• Sharpens the mind by increasing focus

Here’s some physical benefits of meditation:

• Lowers high blood pressure
• Lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks
• Decreases tension-related pain
• Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
• Improves the immune system
• Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy

TIPS TO CREATE YOUR PERSONAL MEDITATION SPACE

As you can see, meditation is your time to relax, unwind, and practice your deep breathing techniques. Even though you are free to meditate anywhere, it would be nice to create your very own personal space in or around your home dedicated to meditation.

• Tip 1: Choose a location with nature in mind. For example, lush green trees, soothing blue water, beautiful flowery garden, next to a window, on a patio, porch, empty room decorated with nature colors and pictures, etc.

• Tip 2: Keep the space clean. If the environment around you is clean, your mind can also be relaxed during meditation. Less clutter is better.

• Tip 3: Light it up as you like. Allow sunlight to come through your windows or if it is evening you may want a specific type of lamp to help set the relaxing mood.

• Tip 4: Smell the relaxation. You may choose from a variety of fragrances as per your choice. Whether it is aromatic incense sticks or essence oils, the choice is yours.

• Tip 5: Think comfort. You may choose a soft yoga mat, a low-height mattress, soft cushion or a comfortable chair.

WAYS TO HELP YOU ADJUST TO PERSONAL CHANGE

Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong. – Unknown Author

Here’s some ways to help you adjust to change:

• Read and study God’s Word. Plant the scriptures in your heart.

• Seek God’s face each day through prayer and meditation. Make your requests known.

• Pray a specific prayer for positive change in and around your life.

• Set personal goals and a plan to achieve them. Put it in writing and look at it often.

• Journaling practice helps to get your thoughts on to paper and out of your head.

• Make time for self-reflection. Go for a walk, spend time journaling, reading, drawing, meditating or coloring. Do what makes your soul happy and keeps your mind relaxed.

• If you feel that your mental stability is getting worse, seek Professional help in the form of therapy from a licensed therapist or social worker, medication to treat depression or anxiety, or support groups to help share your feelings with like-minded individuals.

PRINCIPLES FOR RESTORING YOUR SOUL

Rest – Enjoy a time of relaxation in God’s presence. Examples: Read God’s Word, pray and meditate

Reflection – As we look back over our lives, we should feel protected, safe and secure under the leadership of God.

Replenishment – Now that we are living a renewed life for God, we cannot help but anticipate being with God forever in the future.

Remember, once you get into the habit and experience the mental clarity, emotional stability, physical relaxation that the meditation practice offers, not practicing meditation seems unimaginable. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s set aside some quality time during this season to renew inspiration – mind, body and spirit!

Kindness is the language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. – Mark Twain

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Finding kindness within is not as easy as it sounds. Recently, I have made a commitment to find kindness within and to practice kindness toward others on a daily basis. But what does this really mean? For me, it’s quite simple. To practice kindness, you first must find kindness within (mind, body, spirit) so you can share it with others. You must be kind hearted and be a gentle soul. You must naturally care for others and not be fake about it. Then, you have to show that you’re not selfish by showing compassion toward others as well as refraining from criticizing and/or judging people throughout your journey.

Believe it or not, kindness actually reduces stress, anxiety, and depression. Also, kindness can put us and others at ease while we’re interacting with one another. Try it next time you’re out and about. Offer a kind word or gesture to someone you meet, to someone who serves your community, or even a family member. Notice what happens. From a learning perspective, you’ll see that the effects are cumulative. The more we practice kindness, the better we get at it, it helps build our character, and it becomes who we are.

DEFINITION

Kindness (noun) – the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate; a kind act.

FUN FACTS

Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change. – Bob Kerrey

• World Kindness Day is a day that was started in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement. This day is celebrated on November 13th in several countries all over the world, such as United States, Italy, India, Singapore, Nigeria, Japan, Australia, and Canada.

• Kindness is considered a virtue and is recognized as a value in many cultures and religions.

• National Random Acts of Kindness Day was started in 2004 by New Zealand and is observed on February 17th. This day can be celebrated by individuals, groups, and organizations nationwide to encourage acts of kindness.

• Kindness is a natural antidepressant because it causes a release of serotonin in our brain.

• Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAK) is a US nonprofit that was founded in 1995 and has its headquarters in Denver, CO.

WAYS TO PRACTICE KINDNESS

Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness. – Seneca

Here’s some ways to practice kindness throughout your day:

Be kind to yourself. Notice your self-talk. Recite positive affirmations. Practice meditation and engage in basic self-care routines.

Use your manners often. Saying thank you and you’re welcome are expressions of gratitude. A grateful heart is all it takes to express kindness.

Smile at everyone you pass or encounter. I always greet people with a warm smile and a kind word. Whether they respond or not, it makes me feel good.

Greet people with a friendly hug. A good hug can lift someone’s spirits or make them feel loved and appreciated.

Be generous and give from the heart. Donate money or clothes to charity, volunteer your time to help the needy, or even bring a gift or souvenir whenever you visit a friend. Even at home, we can lend a helping hand by offering to wash the dishes, vacuum the floor, or clean the bathrooms.

Help a stranger. You can help someone put their bags in the car, let someone go ahead of you in line, hold the door or elevator, run errands for your friend or neighbor, or hold an umbrella for someone who needs a hand.

Send good wishes. Kindness always begins with a thought. Secretly send people good intentions, wishes, and prayer.

Give praises. Giving a sincere praise to someone is an act of kindness. By giving recognition to others, we can help them to develop confidence in themselves.

Call a loved one or friend. Take a moment to call a loved one or a friend to catch up instead of sending a text. It’s refreshing to have a heart-to-heart conversation over the phone.

Send greeting cards. Send a greeting card just because to let someone know you’re thinking of them. Sometimes, the unexpected cards are the best, and they’ll make a lasting, positive impression.

DAILY AFFIRMATIONS – SPEAK KINDNESS

• I am a beautiful soul that radiates a vibrant and beautiful form. All is well in my body and mind.

• I let the events of today go. I forgive myself and others for any mistakes that were made. I am ready to start fresh with a new day tomorrow.
