Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Today, I want to explore various ways to make your life complete using my very own concept called journaling beyond measure. Journaling beyond measure will help you gain clarity inside and out. In addition, this concept will help you to make positive changes in your life that will offer you a glimpse into your soul in its purest form by doing the following:

  • Making you more aware – Helps you get to know yourself better; Brings your thoughts and feelings to the surface
  • Letting you take control – Minimize the chaos in your life; Journaling helps get things into perspective
  • Shifting your viewpoint – Offers a safe place to practice positive self-talk; Retraining the brain to think positively
  • Letting you notice patterns – Helps you see how you’re doing over time

 BENEFITS OF JOURNALING

Journaling is my safe place and I use this time to just write how I feel with no excuses and no explanations given. Believe it or not, journaling has many benefits, such as:

  • Lowering your stress levels and making you feel calmer.
  • Helping you gain clarity and improving your short-term memory.
  • Encouraging you to maintain an organized record of your progress and journey.
  • Helping you increase your happiness and improving your mood.
  • Helping you develop self-awareness and empathy.
  • Offering you an ability to heal your past or present traumas.
  • Helping you to increase your personal creativity.

Remember, when you write in a journal it becomes your personal journey of creative and heart felt thoughts. Your experiences may even bring about other benefits if you’re open to the process.

JOURNALING TIPS

In addition, journaling can provide an outlet for your personal thoughts and feelings to be expressed freely without criticism. From my experience, it’s important to have your guard down when making the decision to start journaling. After all, journaling helps you to gain better control of your emotions and thought process, which improves your overall mental health.

Here’s some amazing journaling tips to keep in mind as you embark on this journey:

  • Keep a regular writing schedule so journaling becomes a habit.
  • Select a journal that you feel comfortable using to capture your inner thoughts.
  • Don’t over think your written entries, just write honestly.
  • Be creative, add photos and positive quotes to enhance your written entries.
  • Take your journal everywhere you go to capture special thoughts or moments.
  • Be spontaneous and free letting it all out with no structure.
  • Don’t get too negative, but instead shift your writing in another direction.

Finally, don’t worry about format, grammar, or spelling. Remember, this is your personal space and a written account for how you feel right now in this very moment. Don’t worry about following your traditional writing rules. Dedicate time daily and just write.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! I can really feel fall in the air these days. How about you? The mornings and nights in Michigan are in the low 40s. The colorful leaves are beginning to fall from the trees. On the home front my husband is still healing from his foot surgery so many days I am working, driving my sons around to school/appointments, going grocery shopping, running other necessary errands, and caring for my husband. Unfortunately, there’s very little time for me and this is not good for my mental health.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

As I was researching over the weekend, I came across some information that I wanted to share with you. World Mental Health Day is observed on Thursday, October 10th this year. This is a day set aside for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.

World Mental Health Day was first celebrated on October 10, 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries. Since then, many supporters come to celebrate this annual awareness program on October 10th to bring attention to mental illness. Remember, treatment and support are available for those who need it, but the door to conversation must be opened and welcomed.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and a sound mind. – II Timothy 1:7 KJV

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Just like all feelings and emotions we experience in our daily lives, there’s a portion of fear that is also necessary. Unfortunately, we have to be careful not to get caught up in all of the fears, negative feelings, and emotions. Often times living in constant fear can cause you to experience unhealthy feelings and physical consequences, such as:

• Chronic worrying

• A high level of anxiety

• Harmful sleep habits

• Issues with your appetite

• Digestive disorders

• Muscle tension

• Short-term memory loss

• Increase stress levels

• Depression

• Suicidal thoughts

As you can see, living in fear has a negative impact on your total well-being – mind, body, and spirit.

DEFINITIONS

Worrying doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace. – Unknown Author

It’s important to also note that living in fear will cause an increase in anxiety and worry as well. Below you will find the definitions for fear, anxiety, and worry:

Fear – an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

Anxiety – a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an event or something with an uncertain outcome.

Worry – a state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems.

So, I know you’re wondering how you can turn your life around, right? Well, let’s start with focusing on basic lifestyle changes.

LIFESTYLE CHANGES

Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it. – Unknown Author

Although living in fear can cause an imbalance in your body, there are many options you have that can re-establish harmony of your total well-being – mind, body, and spirt.

Here’s some lifestyle changes to include in your daily journey:

• Exercise daily.

• Eat a healthy, balanced diet.

• Focus on what you appreciate.

• Write your thoughts in a journal or notebook.

• Be conscious of your worries.

• Learn to relax.

• Pray and meditate.

• Establish a strong social network.

• Talk to a professional therapist or counselor.

Now, remember you’re not going to change overnight. It’s going to take time, commitment, and consistency to find what works best for you. Be careful not to rush the process.

OVERCOME FEAR, ANXIETY & WORRY

Worrying will never change the outcome. – Unknown Author

As you may already know, overcoming fear, anxiety, and worry may not be easy, but it is possible. As you take the necessary steps to overcome these emotional challenges, you will allow yourself to focus on the more important things in life. It takes effort and commitment, but just imagine the number of rewards that will follow. Please keep these important tips in mind throughout the process:

Tip 1 – Honesty is key so always speak your truth.

Tip 2 – Focus on your breathing techniques, slowly breathing in and out.

Tip 3 – Trust the Universe, but don’t question your personal beliefs and values.

Tip 4 – Don’t fight the feeling, just let go and let God direct your path.

Tip 5 – Always make time for personal reflection.

My hope for you today is to find a way to balance fear, anxiety, and worry in your life. Remember, a little of anything will be alright, but it’s when you allow stuff like fear to consume your life, is when you will experience stress and heartache.

SELF-REFLECTION & JOURNAL PROMPTS

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! So, how is your summer going so far? I hope you enjoyed your 4th of July holiday with your family and friends. Unfortunately, I am exhausted some days from trying to be stronger than I feel. I even overthink my overthinking. Lately, I have been experiencing a high level of anxiety. I normally feel this way during holidays. Of course, this holiday was no different. I thought about my mom a lot.

Believe it or not, everyone experiences fear and anxiety from time to time. Anxiety disorders can develop after a person experience trauma in childhood or adulthood. However, coping with anxiety on a regular basis can be quite difficult at any age level. Did you know that anxiety is a healthy response to help you cope with real threats to your life and well-being? Yes, anxiety is supposed to be a quick response that will motivate you to take action, and then fade away so you can feel safe again.

SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY

Unfortunately, high levels of anxiety can cause various health conditions, such as:

• Panic attacks

• Depression

• Constant and excessive worrying

• Feeling exhausted and fatigue

• Increase stress

• Restlessness

• Insomnia and non-restorative sleep

• Irritability

• Lack of concentration

• Irrational fears and phobias

• Avoiding social situations

It’s important to analyze these symptoms very closely. If you feel the symptoms are severe enough to interfere with daily life activities and continues for at least 6 months, you may want to consider seeing a licensed health professional.

HOW ANXIETY MANIPULATES YOU

Many people deal with anxiety on so many levels, and in some cases, they deal with this condition alone. Unfortunately, anxiety often times manipulates you by showing the following:

• Self-doubt – Anxiety makes us question ourselves and our beliefs.

• Fear – Anxiety takes what is dear to you and makes you afraid of losing it.

• Worries – Anxiety can take a thought and turn it into excessive worries.

• Control – We don’t need our fears to manifest. Then, we strive to control everything.

Similar to the symptoms as noted above, it’s important to analyze how you’re feeling and request help from a licensed health professional so you can cope with life better.

WAYS TO REDUCE ANXIETY

Here’s some ways to reduce anxiety:

• Eating a healthy diet

• Limiting caffeine

• Abstaining from drinking alcohol

• Quitting smoking

• Exercising often

• Trying medication to calm you

• Practicing yoga routines

POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS

Never have I dealt with anything more difficult than my own soul. – Unknown Author

I don’t think people realize how much strength it takes to pull your own self out of an anxiety attack. So, if you’ve done that today or any day, I’m proud of you. Repeat these positive affirmations daily as you look into a mirror:

• I am beautiful, flaws and all.

• I am worthy of my dreams.

• I am strong and I have a purpose.

• I am my own hero.

• I am worthy of real love and affection.

As you speak into your life using positive affirmations, you must believe the words in your heart. I don’t know about you, but I deserve to hold my head up high throughout my journey. As you can see, my self-worth isn’t determined by others, but it comes from within. Now, I hope you feel the same.

Special Thought – A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Let’s face it, even though most people look forward to summer time, there are others who experience summer time blues. Summer time blues can also be known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). In other words, SAD can be defined as a person experiencing sadness during the change of seasons. Unfortunately, some people never overcome these sad emotions and then fall into a deep depression.

REASONS WHY PEOPLE LOOK FORWARD TO SUMMER TIME

Here’s a few reasons why people look forward to summer time:

• People enjoy the warm weather.

• Children are out of school for summer break.

• Families look forward to going on fun vacations.

• People plan many outdoor parties and cookouts.

• People can enjoy more sunshine because the days are longer.

• Going to outdoor carnivals and festivals.

• Eating frozen treats more often.

Believe it or not, you may be suffering from summer time blues if you’re experiencing any of these triggers:

• Not Sleeping – Staying up later than usual or tossing and turning during the night.

• Bad Moods – Constant mood swings and sadness.

• Body Shaming or Insecurities – Not happy with your body because you’ve gained weight over the winter months.

Anxiety Issues – Worrying about finances due to paying for summer vacations, hosting parties, shopping, or summer camp.

• Dislike Heat – If you simply just don’t like the summer heat may cause you to go into a dark place.

Remember, these are just some of the triggers that comes to mind when I think about summer time blues.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! Well, it is officially summer and our schedules are all over the place. Now, that school is out, most families have to juggle working outside of the home, taking children to summer programs, and planning fun activities to do as a family. I am sure all of the parents can relate, right?

In addition, this is also a time where people can become mentally drained due to stress and anxiety. Tis the season to be happy one moment and sad in another. When your emotions seem to be all over the place, it is important to take a mental break from life as you know it so you can put your mental state in check. During this time, remember, you are not alone during this process. Make sure to change your focus and have your support network established.

RELAXING THE MIND

Your calm mind is the ultimate weapon against your challenges. So relax. – Bryant McGill

Believe it or not, relaxing the mind is very important when you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Take time to observe how you really feel and don’t be afraid to challenge your thoughts.

Here’s some ways to help relax the mind:

• Sit or lay in a quiet place

• Visualize yourself calm and at peace

• Take slow, deep breaths with your eyes closed

• Practice mindful meditation or prayer

• Listen to soothing music

• Read a good book

• Write in your journal or notebook

• Exercise or go for a walk outdoors

• Talk to someone you trust (family, friends, co-workers, therapist)

• Soak in a warm bath with your eyes closed

TODAY I RELEASE

Feel the feeling but don’t become the emotion. Witness it. Allow it. Release it. – Crystal Andrus

Stop trying to please everyone and putting yourself down. At some point, you have to make positive changes in your life in order to see positive results. Don’t live in the past. Instead, take a moment to release all pain, suffering, worry, and anxiety.

Today I release all of the following:

• Toxic thoughts and emotions

• Unhealthy environments

• Unfruitful relationships

• Thoughts of revenge and unforgiveness

• Thoughts of envy and strife

• Negative words I spoke about others

• Negative words I have spoken to myself

I totally let all of these things go on today, right now in this very moment. I live a life filled with love, peace, and freedom from this day forward.

Change Is Coming

Change Is Coming

All great changes are preceded by chaos. – Unknown

Something to Think About – When it comes to making a big change in your life you have to want it more than you fear it.

Welcome back to Renew Inspiration! I want to dedicate this blog post to Mental Health Awareness. Today, I want to focus on “change” as it relates to our total life experience – MIND, BODY and SPIRIT. I don’t know about you, but I honestly feel a positive change is coming in my life. I can feel it in my mind (positive thoughts), body (feeling relaxed) and my spirit (spiritually grounded). I can see it all around me each day. How about you? Can you see and feel the change that is meant to be in your life right now in this very moment?

When you hear the word “change” what is the first thing that come to mind? For me, I think of the weather. This week Michigan’s weather has been in the low 80s, but by the weekend it will be in the low 50s. Talk about change, right? On a personal level when I think about change I cannot help but think about my life and how my thoughts are constantly changing from day to day. One day I can be positive and upbeat then the next day I may feel anxious or depressed. One day I may be enjoying my writing experiences then the next day I may just sit on the couch just looking out the window. Let’s face it, feeling anxious and depressed are all so real for many people. There are many people who continue to live their lives alone and broken without any help to work through these most difficult moments. To be honest, it may not be no one’s fought at all. Some people are born with mental health issues and other people experience life changing situations, such death of a loved one, divorce, foster care, adoption, bullying, rape, unemployment, financial hardship, etc. Our internal emotions are very strong forces that sometimes have a mind of their own.

Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong. – Unknown

When my mother passed away in December 2015, it changed my life completely. I have not been the same since. I am still going through the grieving process but realized throughout the early stages that I needed help. I could not handle all of my emotional feelings and I felt my mental state was all over the place. At that time, I did not realize I was experiencing depression. Sometimes it creeps up on you and if you are not careful, it will cripple your inner being. It is important to share your personal story so that others who may be experiencing similar situations will know that it is possible to endure, go through and overcome.

Today I plan to close the door to the past, hold my head up high so I can open the door to the future, then take a deep breath, step out on faith to go through the open door and start a new chapter in my life. Are you with me? I know it feels scary sometimes and you may feel like you are all alone. It takes courage to let go of the familiar and embrace the new. Sometimes our lives have to be completely shaken up, changed, and rearranged to relocate us to the place we’re meant to be. Always remember, YOU are allowed to change, but you must decide to take the first step.

The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are. – Unknown

Positive Affirmations

Every next level of your life will demand a different version of you. I will allow change to take place in my life on today. No exceptions. No excuses. I plan to water my roots, so my soul can blossom. Now, repeat after me:

• I plan to inspire others by using one of my gifts.

• I will commit to improving my personal well-being (MIND, BODY & SPIRIT).

Repeat these positive affirmations each day. Feel free to add your own to the list or change some of the words to make it personal. The idea here is to speak positive words in your spirit each day and eventually you will believe, then become what you are speaking.
